Poem: You Are Not Me

Updated: Feb 10

Over the course of my recovery, I've come to realize that my eating disorder was not me. I had to separate myself from the orthorexic thoughts and urges in my head. This allowed me to finally meet myself. I'm still getting to know me but so far I like what I see!

You were strong.

I was weak.

You are a thief.

I am a victim.

You hold court.

I plead innocent.

You scream and demean.

I deafen the roar.

You are not me.

I am not you.

You build a cage.

I need to soar.

You are fake news.

I value ethics.

You act tough and bully.

I embrace vulnerability.

You hate my body.

I hate you.

You are not me.

I am not you.

You clip my wings.

I yearn for the sky.

You chill the soul.

I am a match.

You are a charlatan.

I seek the truth.

You foster hate.

I fill with love.

You are not me.

I am not you.

You are an egomaniac.

I am a humanitarian.

You blind the eyes and mind.

But I have a vision.

You live for rules.

I am independent.

You are a homewrecker.

I love my husband.

You are not me.

I am not you.

You seek to destroy.

I aim to rebuild.

You see the worst.

I see the best.

You enjoy gaslighting.

I am not buying.

You are relentless.

I am resilient.

You are not me.

I am not you.

You numb.

I feel.

You restrict.

I revive.

You isolate.

I congregate.

You are weak.

I am strong.

You are not me.

I am not you.
